Creative, rigorous and open science
We hope to have a positive impact on society through excellent science and community. Our science is guided by values of
- Curiosity, passion and boldness.
- Collaboration, debate and discussion.
- Learning and growth.
- Data X Rigor X Reproducibility
- Outreach, sustainability and service.
Mentorship and teamwork
We believe in treating everyone as their unique whole, where no single script works for all. We accommodate members' changing needs – physical or mental health, neurodiversity, personal or family issues, or cultural matters. We will co-develop a living code based on respect, openness, curiosity, and compassion with outreach as an essential component.
We are committed to a culture of justice, equity, diversity and inclusion. Our mentorship philosophy and expectations are guided by principles of FAIM. We believe in having a strong work ethic that values transparency and individual flexibility. Mistakes are expected and okay — that’s how we grow!
Diversity of disciplines and ideas
Our work is interdisciplinary, at the intersection of genomics, computation, and human health. We have seen first-hand the leaps in knowledge that happen when bridges are built between diverse disciplines and encourage interaction with scientists in different departments, scientific backgrounds, and cultures. Often these challenges provide opportunities to take a different path to success, thus diversifying not only the personnel but also the outcomes of scientific research.
